Buu Truong is currently working on her BFA in Studio Art at Florida Atlantic University with a concentration in painting. Born in Vietnam, her family immigrated to Florida when she was very young. She grew up in Orlando and later graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Computer Engineering. After working as a computer programmer and manager for many years, she grew increasingly unhappy with her job. She always felt like something was missing but did not know what it was.
She started doing the occasional painting from online paintings lessons to relieve stress, and the more she painted, the more her passion for art grew. The turning point was realizing that art-making is a learned skill, and natural talent was not necessarily required. What she loves about art-making is the fact that no matter the outcome, everything that she creates is a stepping stone to helping her become a better artist. In 2016, she left her career of 16 years to pursue a degree in the visual arts, and she currently resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Since then, she has been awarded the Rothenberger Scholarship and Wellington Art Society FAU Scholarship. She has exhibited her work throughout Florida at the Wellington City Hall in Wellington, Lauderdale Lakes Educational and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale, Wellington Community Center in Wellington, Hub FTL in Fort Lauderdale, South Side Cultural Arts Center in Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers, and the Coral Springs Museum of Art in Coral Springs. Currently, she has her own solo exhibition presented by the Wellington Art Society at the Whole Foods Market Cafe in Wellington, FL.
